Gulf of Mexico Oil Slick

CBS Correspondent Dave Cohen talks about the latest clean up attempt, this one involving burning off spilled oil, from the Coast guard after an oil rig exploded and sunk.

  1. Did you know that natural oil seeps (from shallow oil and gas unrelated to drilling and production) in the Gulf of Mexico contribute about 125,000 gallons per day into the marine environment? Did you also know that during the last 15 years, there were no spills greater than 42,000 gallons for all production platforms (approximately 3800) in the Gulf? Not that the current spill is not a tragedy, but it should be placed in perspective.
